What to wear this Valentine’s Day

Well, it would appear that time has already begun to fly by and it’s already February. To me, February means: snow, hearts on everything, constantly wearing the colors pink and red, and, duh, Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is my second favorite holiday (after Christmas, of course), and for us girls it usually means dates, flowers, chocolates, jewelry and cute stuffed animals. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever met a guy who actually likes or remembers Valentine’s Day. Are you guys out there?

All my single ladies out there, I admire the gals who get together with their girlfriends, eat junk food and watch romantic comedies. Treat yourselves! The day is all about loving yourself and the ones around you, and that doesn’t mean you need a man to do it! *Cue Beyoncé’s Single Ladies track*
(Little hint: it’s always best to go to Target/Wal Mart a few days after V-Day for extremely discounted treats. Lindor chocolates are my discounted indulgence of choice).

Let me start off by saying that when it comes to dressing for dates, guys just don’t understand fashion. Period. Most of the time they’ll look at your trendier outfits and just think you look uncomfortable. I’d say that about 99% of my guy friends tell me they prefer the cute girl-next-door, no makeup look anyways, so save your fashionable looks for girls night.

So if you’re a lucky gal with a date this V-Day and don’t know what to wear, you’ve come to the right place.
First, you have to determine the location of the date and work from there.

Casual dinner date: At this stage, you’re either casually dating, good friends, or you’ve been dating for quite a while and don’t feel the need to do yet another expensive Valentine’s Day date. You’d rather grab pizza or a quick dinner and see a movie. Hey, you’ll soon realize that I’m always impressed with pizza.
I’d say, since it’s Valentine’s Day anyways, dress up a bit, but to your own comfort standards! I’d dress up a jeans and t-shirt look with dark denim and statement jewelry.

Fancy dinner date: This is when you’re in the honeymoon stage and know it’s serious. You want to spoil each other and fork over a good amount of money because it’s a special occasion — or it’s a big milestone in a long term relationship (say a major anniversary).
Since it is February, and it’s pretty darn cold in the Buffalo/Niagara area, I’m going to suggest wearing longer dresses or adding sheer pantyhose to add warmth. For dates like this (and for daily life too), my motto is: you can never go wrong with a little black dress. Those things can be dressed up or down with the help of accessories, coats, purses and shoes to suit your personal style.

Hanging out with the girls: You don’t need a man in your life to have fun! You’re going for cocktails with the girls, going to a trendy club, or just watching rom-coms at home with tons of junk food.
Dress up in your sexiest/trendiest outfit, or just get cozy in your denim (or even PJs if it’s that kind of party).

Stay Stylish,
Riley
