Why Doug Why?

I have to say I am slightly shocked by your decision to run out on the team after two years. I thought things were on the up and up and we were a QB away from great things. Anyone new to a position will have growing pains. I felt you had us on the right track despite some rookie mistakes. You handled a lot of stuff very well for a first time coach. You had to replace your defensive coordinator after one season and had to deal with Kiko Alonso’s season-ending injury. We finished this season 9-7, which was the first winning season around here in 10 years! It was the first time in a long time we didn’t have 20 people on IR at the end of the year. We were never below a .500 record, and if we had even average QB play that record could have been better. You’ve had some bad luck with the QB situation from the beginning. You had EJ Manuel thrown at you who was a 4th round talent drafted in the first round. Kevin Kolb tripped on a mat and then got a concussion in the preseason ending his season. EJ was often injured, and you had to roll with Thad Lewis and Jeff Tuel! I wouldn’t expect much from anyone with that kind of limitation at the most important position in football. Buffalo sports media can be super negative. I hope certain writers didn’t suck you into their black hole of negativity. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be called out day in and day out for every decision you make. Maybe it was something internal and not even football related. Maybe things behind closed doors were difficult and perhaps you had to leave based on work environment. I mean, I get it, and I’ve been there too. Sometimes you just can’t work with someone. I think fans feel overly slighted because of the way Orton left, which seemed to surprise everyone, and then you take the same surprising way out. I hope you find what you are looking for out there. Just stay away from Oakland! I wouldn’t wish that job on my worst enemy! I wish you the best of luck Coach Marrone. Thank you for pointing us in the right direction. Maybe you were the Ted Nolan the Bills needed to set us up for a championship run.

Sincerely,
Buffalo Fan
