Winter in Buffalo can switch from enjoyable to tolerable to dreadful in a matter of hours (too soon for Snowvember references?) It’s important to have necessary winter apparel on hand for the upcoming months of snow. Aside from clothes, accessories are an important addition to winter apparel. Here are my top five winter accessories you should have in your closet this season.

1. Ruanas are similar in style to a poncho. Think of it as a cozy blanket draped over your clothing.  With a knit ruana, you’ll be sure to stay warm during the frigid temperatures of a typical Western New York winter. This is a warm to transform your look to the ultimate comfortable outfit for winter.

2. Gloves aren’t only for children playing in the snow. You’re hand needs to stay warm during the winter, too. Cashmere will be your best friend for winter gloves, but fear not fellow bargain hunters, Target has cashmere gloves for under $40. Another option for the tech-savvy woman is to find gloves that allow you to use your phone while wearing them. This pair from Macy’s is only $21.

3. Socks are a necessity any time of year, but stocking up on socks that are thermal and weather-appropriate for winter is important if you have to walk outside frequently. Dick’s Sporting Goods has a ton of options of inexpensive, all-weather socks that you can wear during winter.

4. Headwraps are becoming a popular alternative to beanies and other styles of hats. And what’s not to love? They keep your ears protected from the cold and they don’t mess up your hair (hat hair never looks good on anyone). If you’re looking for a chic warm to stay warm and look presentable, a headwrap might be your solution.

5. Legwarmers (no, not ’90s aerobic-style, workout legwarmers). I mean legwarmers that create a comfortable, chic look when paired with combat boots or knee-high boots. There are also boot socks, which are made to be worn with boots during fall and winter. These will be sure to keep you warm.

I love how simple this accessory is, yet it creates a feminine look that’s perfect for winter. Boots are necessary from November to March. Why not dress them up with boots socks or legwarmers for a warm, fashionable look.
