Hey, Bills fans! Are you ready for some football? Friday Night Lights Football!! I know I am! So with one preseason game in the bag, what can we expect from the Bills this week? What are the position battles to watch? Who’s out and who’s in the lineup this week? And how much will EJ play this week? Or maybe I should say how much should he play this week?

Robert Woods hauls one in! – Photo via bleacherreport.com

After a disappointing game last week to cap of a pretty amazing weekend in Canton for Bills nation, the Bills had the day off Monday and headed back to Training camp Tuesday. Tuesday saw the return of tight ends Chandler and Moeaki (though Moeaki was limited all week). Wednesday’s practice saw another bite of the injury bug as Marcell Dareus hurt his hamstring and was unable to finish practice. Safety Da’Norris Searcy left practice early for a family matter and Leodis McKelvin is still missing as he works his way back from off Season hip surgery. The only notable mentions from this short week of training camp are that Jeff Tuel seems to have a lock right now on the 2nd QB spot. Robert Woods continues to roll with great catches and strong routes and Cyril Richardson is getting a bunch of 1st team reps at guard.

Will EJ get more playing time tonight? – Photo via thestartingfive.netOK

OK. So on to the more fun stuff! What can we expect from our Bills this week, in the 2nd preseason game, especially the first team offense? From everything I’ve heard EJ REALLY, REALLY wants to score a TD! So look for them to be aggressive in getting the ball down field and in the end zone. Hopefully, the O-line spent a lot of time on film study and can give EJ better passing lanes to avoid batted balls. I hope EJ plays the whole 1st half, because, let’s face it, he needs the reps! If he wants to score, he needs to play however long it takes him to throw that first TD pass — even it if takes the whole game! My other notable players and positions to watch are DT, RB, CB and offensive line.

If you guys caught my recap article from last week’s game, then you know I was gushing about Landon Cohen, our newly signed Free Agent DT. He was often in the backfield and beating double-teams, causing havoc for the Giants. With Dareus injured, look for Cohen to get some heavy reps in the game, and let’s see if we can build on last week. With Fred and CJ, the locked starters, playing time will be split between Anthony (Boobie) Dixon and Bryce Brown with some clean up by Johnny Wingo. Brown found a lot of daylight while there was poor blocking in front of him, and Dixon played a solid smash mouth style. Hopefully, the offensive line worked on their run blocking schemes and will open up cleaner lanes for those guys.

Ron Brooks will see more time! – Photo http://www.zimbio.com

With Leodis out, there is a bunch of CB’s looking to get playing time to lock up a roster spot. Ron Brooks got a lot of time last week on the boundary at starting corner across from Mario Butler. Butler didn’t do well in the running game at all, often being blocked to the ground by a WR! Brooks was shaky as well but did play tight coverage well at times. He definitely needs more work to lock up that 3rd or 4th CB spot. Keep an eye on the pairings this week and watch how those guys play in all the different situations like man, press, and zone, and how they come up to play the run. On the offensive line, Cyril Richardson played well most of the game, so let’s hope he sees improvement. He was beat on back-to-back plays by the same kind of pass rush by the Giants starting DE, but it was his first live fire action. And he’s a rookie so I’m not ready to throw in the towel just yet on him. Cyrus Kouandjio, however, showed us he’s not quite as ready for prime time as I was hoping for! If you guys caught my Top 5 Positions to watch training camp preview article, he was one of the guys I was really excited about as he’s just a massive big man who’s very athletic. The Bills are forced to shuffle their 1st team linemen as Cordy Glenn is out for the entire preseason with an undisclosed illness. Building some chemistry is what we will watch for as they mix and match personnel. My sleeper is still Seantreal Henderson, but if he doesn’t make a name for himself this week, his chances of earning a starting spot are going to be fading faster than Matt Hasselbeck’s career after he left Seattle! (Sorry, Matt! I did love watching you play in Seattle!)

This week’s luck of the draw player is Duke Williams. He’s going to get a lot of playing time with the first and second team since Da’Norris Searcy missed two days of practice for family reasons and his status is currently unknown. If he doesn’t suit up, Duke gets his chance to continue to show what he can do! Another big “stopped-in-his-tracks” open field hit may secure him some more playing time in the safety rotation!

Well, that brings me to predictions, so let’s see how much of a clairvoyant I am! I predict the Bills do pull this one off in a tight game, winning 27 to 23. I think EJ does get his first TD to Robert Woods, but I think Jeff Tuel has the better outing again. I’m hoping Thad Lewis can put some good drives together to stay in the QB battle, but at this point it’s Tuel’s to lose. The latter’s extra conditioning this offseason seems to be paying off. Could the Bills have found the next Tom Brady? I also think Easley finally gets some good looks in the passing game and a TD this week as well. His special teams play has been awesome, and he’s due for some rewards on his effort!

Well, that’s it Bills nation. What do you think? Predictions? Thoughts? As always, leave me a comment on here, or follow me on Twitter @jasonsins! There’s nothing left to say but LETS GO BUFFALO!!!!

Did you say the name “Tom Brady” in somewhat of a positive light??! Lol. Great analysis and I also think the Bills win this week. But mainly due to Carolina sitting Cam most of the game as well as many other starters as they try and see how they can get past average with some new blood…
